Jillian Steyl, APRN-CNP, specializes in cardiovascular and thoracic (CVT) outpatient surgery at Oklahoma Heart Institute (OHI). Her professional areas of interest include working with CVT surgical patients, performing wound care and procedures.
Jillian’s journey to becoming a nurse all started at a young age. She said, “My mother inspired me to follow in her footsteps to pursue working as a nurse and my sister inspired me to become a nurse practitioner.”
While Jillian navigated the ins and outs of her nursing career, she would eventually find herself a spot in cardiology. She said, “The cardiac world actually found me, and I could not get enough from the start.”
Now, as she works with patients recovering from procedures, she focuses on building relationships with each person by effective communication and mutual respect. She said, “Patients want to be heard and respected.”
When it comes to sharing advice with patients, she says, “Moderation is key and attitude is everything.”
Jillian’s education experience includes:
• Master of Science in nursing (MSN) degree at Maryville University, 2021
• Bachelor of Science in nursing (BSN) degree at the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS), 2010
• Bachelor of Science in addictive behavior (BSN) degree at the University of Central Arkansas (UCA), 2007
Jillian said, “When I’m not working you can usually catch me at one of my kids practices or games. I love watching them play! I also enjoy watching just about any sport, going for long walks, playing tennis, watching movies or doing puzzles.”
